Bernard PatribotsThe Bernard Patribots, the schools FIRST Lego League team, advanced to the Eastern Missouri FIRST Lego League championship after receiving the Champion's Award at a regional qualifier on Dec. 8.

The Patribots, a team of 10 Bernard Middle School students, were tasked with providing an innovative solution to a problem faced by astronauts, building and programming a robot to complete a series of missions, and displaying teamwork and sportsmanship.

"Our dedicated team members spend four hours per week collaborating with each other as they learn to code their robots and problem solve missions," said Lauren Cumming, assistant principal at Bernard. "On the day of their competition, they encountered several roadblocks and were able to persevere and successfully recode a mission."

The regional championship is Sunday, Jan. 13, at St. Louis Community College - Florissant Valley.
