Students advance to international leadership event

HOSA qualifiersFourteen Mehlville and Oakville high students have earned the opportunity to compete in the HOSA - Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference this summer.

The students advanced to the international conference while competing at the HOSA - Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference in March at the University of Missouri S&T in Rolla. The top three medalists in each of the 58 competitive events earned the opportunity to compete at the upcoming HOSA International Leadership Conference held in Orlando, Florida, June 16-23, 2019.

The following Mehlville School District students have received medals and may advance to the competition at the International Leadership Conference: 
• For First Place Parliamentary Procedure: Abeselom Weldemichael (MHS senior), Ariam Weldemichael (MHS freshman), Natalie Langer (MHS senior), Alex Norrenberns (MHS freshman), Kelly Tuong (MHS freshman), Hunter Eyestone (MHS fresman)
• For Second Place Prepared Speaking: Katelyn Jackson (OHS junior)
• For Third Place Forensic Science: Lauren Linenbroker (MHS sophomore) and Jasmine Chen (MHS sophomore)
For Health Care Issues Exam: Mary Galaske (MHS senior, received the top score in the state), Lydia Brooks (MHS junior), Minna Alnamoora (MHS senior), Carly Herman (MHS senior), and Jeni Holdegraver (MHS senior)

In addition to those who received awards, the following Mehlville and Oakville high school students traveled to compete at the State Leadership Conference: senior Emily Kohnen (MHS); juniors Ally Turner (OHS) and Shaelyn Frauenhoffer (OHS); sophomores Micaela Uy (MHS); freshmen Amra Osmanovic (MHS), Ben Durkovic (MHS), Heavenly Larry (MHS), Michele Mardanschahie (MHS), and Nermin Sabaredzovic (MHS).

HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. HOSA’s mission is to promote career opportunities in the healthcare industry and to enhance the delivery of quality healthcare to all people. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interested in pursuing career in health professions.
