Tom HarperTom Harper, an English language arts teacher at Mehlville High School, was named a Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year. He is one of just ten educators in the St. Louis area to receive this honor.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be named a regional teacher of the year,” said Harper. “It is a reflection of the opportunities the Mehlville School District has provided over the last 25 years for me to become a great educator, the amazing colleagues and mentors who have shaped who I am as an educator and the thousands of students I have had the opportunity to teach.”

Harper, an MHS alum, returned to his alma mater after graduating from college and has spent his entire 25-year teaching career as a Panther. In addition to his work in the classroom, he also serves as English department co-chair and coaches boys soccer and girls basketball.

“I cannot think of a more deserving candidate than Tom Harper. He embodies the attributes of the Mehlville School District, and he gives so much of his time and energy to our students,” said Dr. Jeff Haug, Superintendent of Schools. “Tom is an amazing teacher who, through his interactions with students, reminds us of why we all chose education as a profession.”

Harper will be recognized with other Missouri Regional Teachers of the Year next month. This honor means that Harper is eligible to apply for Missouri State Teacher of the Year.  Harper was previously named the Mehlville High School and Mehlville School District Teacher of the Year this spring.
