National District of CharacterMehlville School District has been re-certified as a National District of Character by Character.org. The program recognizes the district for providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership, and engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building effort.

"We are honored to receive this national award for a second time," said Dr. Chris Gaines, superintendent of Mehlville School District. "Character.org recognizes that our work creating our Portrait of a Graduate is an important evolution and extension of the character work that got us recognized the first time in 2014."

The Mehlville School District Portrait of a Graduate identifies the wide range of values and skills that we want every graduate to possess to help them lead successful professional and person lives. Among those skills and values are: creative and critical thinker, self-aware, persistent, communicator, and ethical and global. These desired soft skills, which were determined by a committee of staff, parents and community members, are taught by blending character education and innovative instruction to equip students with 21st Century skills.

Mehlville School District is one of just three districts throughout the country to receive the National District of Character designation in 2019.

"These schools' representatives, including educators, parents, and students, are working together to create stronger communities focused on character," said Doug Karr, Character.org’s president and CEO. "We are honored to validate their efforts and continue coaching them along their journeys."

Mehlville School District also received the Missouri District of Character and National District of Character award in 2014. Several Mehlville schools are also national and state schools of character.
