We've set a date for high school students to return to campus
Posted on 10/09/2020
Bernard Middle School students walk into school on Thursday, Oct. 8As you know, we are continuing to monitor COVID-19 data for our community and region and continue to work in consultation with the St. Louis County Department of Public Health. We continue to have sustained, downward trends in the metrics we are tracking, particularly in positivity rates and transmission rates.

As a result, we will transition high school students to Plan B: Blended on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Please watch this video for more information on the data we're tracking and our decision to pivot to Plan B for grades nine through twelve.

What this means for your family

For students in grades 9 through 12 in on-campus instruction (currently Plan C):
  • Students (grades 9-12) whose last name starts with A-K will attend in-person classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020.
  • Students (grades 9-12) whose last name starts with L-Z will attend in-person classes on Wednesdays and Fridays starting on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020.
  • Families who have students with different last names are grouped by the last name of their oldest child.
  • All students participate in virtual instruction on Mondays.
  • Transportation will be provided. Bus routes are available on our website.
  • Families must review the COVID-19 symptom checker and ensure their children are symptom free before sending them to school.
  • All students must wear a mask while on the bus and at school, per the county health department’s mandate. Mask breaks will be allowed when appropriate and it is safe to do so.
For families with children in preschool through eighth grade who are in on-campus instruction (currently Plan B):
There is no change. Elementary and middle school students will continue with Plan B: Blended, the same staggered attendance learning plan they are currently participating in.

For families with children who selected Mehlville@Home:
There is no change. Students continue to participate in 100% virtual instruction through the end of the first semester (Jan. 14, 2021).

We will be sharing additional information with our ninth- through twelfth-grade families about our on-campus safety protocols next week. On our website you’ll find the safety protocols for our Plan A and our Plan B. Additionally, your child's high school principal will be in contact regarding informational virtual meetings that will be held before high school students return.

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming students in third through eighth grade back to campus. Our teachers and support staff are demonstrating creativity and flexibility as they navigate this new normal, and our students are doing an excellent job of following the safety procedures we have in place. I look forward to seeing our high school students on campus soon.
