STRETCH Gifted Education

STRETCH’s mission is to provide a project based environment that encourages and enriches students’ creativity, critical thinking and problem solving abilities.

STRETCH (Supplementary Teaching Resources for Educationally Talented Children) is the gifted education program for Mehlville Schools. Identified students in grades K-5 attend classes once a week at the STRETCH Center, located at Washington Middle School. The STRETCH curriculum consists of multidisciplinary units that encourage creativity, critical thinking and problem solving. STRETCH students in grades 6-8 participate in program activities as part of their daily school schedule.

Extend is a program for students that have exhibited a higher-level learning potential through the STRETCH testing process. This program will provide unique learning opportunities for identified students in grades K-5 that would benefit from experiences that strengthen their academic and intellectual skills. The goal of Extend is to provide enrichment activities to students that have the potential of being future gifted students.
