James F. Costello III, 'Jamie,' was a student at Oakville Senior High School and graduate in the Class of 1996. While at Oakville Jamie was a 4-year veteran of the OHS hockey team and a vital contributor in his high school class.
After High School Jamie served as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service for 6-years, working at the South County Branch, before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served in the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. He was stationed out of Fort Hood, Texas. Jamie was deployed to Iraq in December 2005 with his unit. He was one of three U.S. soldiers killed in combat in Taji, Iraq on April 11, 2006.
As a young boy, Jamie was a dedicated patriot. He grew up on stories about his paternal great-grandfather chased Pancho Villa in the U.S. cavalry. His maternal grandfather also served in the U.S. Army cavalry. It was fitting that he was placed in the cavalry when he answered the call to serve during a time of great need.
